Dr. Mbye Kebba Kah (may Allah preserve him) was born in the early 1950s in Medina Sering Mass, a village that was established by his late grandfather (Sheikh Mass Kah) in the 18th century, and was named after Al-Madinatul Munawwarah. It is located in Lower Niumi, North Bank Region (NBR) of The Gambia. His learning of the Magnificent Qur’an began in Medina Sering Mass with his father, Sering Kebba Kah (may Allah have mercy on him), who died in August 1982. He also studied from his brothers such as Alhaji Muhammad Kebba Kah, Alhaji Tijan Kebba Kah, Alhaji Muhammad Hadi Kah and Alhaji Cherno Alieu Kah (may Allah preserve them). He was later enrolled into an Islamic School in Banjul in the early 1970s, where he was taught by a prominent Scholar, Shaykh Ahmed Khalid Al-Banna (may Allah have mercy on him).  Shaykh Al-Banna was sent to The Gambia by the Head of Darul Iftaa, Shaykh Abdul ‘Aziz Ibn Baaz (may Allah have mercy on him). He taught him Fiqh, Hadith, Tafsir, standardization, terminology and grammar, and other fields of Islamic Law and Jurisprudence.

In 1982, he was awarded a scholarship by the Islamic University of Madinah where he received his high school certificate with a distinction between the years 1982 to 1987. He then continued his studies and pursued his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Islamic Law & Arabic Studies from the Faculty of Islamic Law in 1991 at the Islamic University of Al-Madinah with a distinction. He then received his Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Comparative Islamic Jurisprudence (with Honours) and a terminal degree (Ph.D.) in Comparative Islamic Jurisprudence (with Honours) in 1995 and 2000 respectively, from the Islamic University of Al-Madinah.

Having returned to The Gambia in 2001, Dr. Mbye Kebba Kah (may Allah preserve him) joined the University of The Gambia as a Senior Lecturer, where he lectured several courses in Islamic Studies and Arabic language. He also offers lectures in his native language focusing on Islamic books such as Ar-Resaala, Sahihul Muslim and other books of Islamic Jurisprudence.

In 2002, he founded and headed an Islamic non-for-profit foundation, Al-Eamar Charitable Foundation in The Gambia. The foundation aims at providing social necessities to the poor, needy and orphans as well as access to clean water in needy communities, construction of mosques, distribution of food items amongst others. In 2008, he was appointed as Secretary General at The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC), a legal body that oversees the activities of all Islamic institutions in The Gambia. In 2009, he was appointed by the Gambia Government as the Chairman of the then Gambia Hajj Commission (now Office of Pilgrims Affairs in The Gambia). He was also appointed as the Deputy Secretary General of the Union of African Scholars in 2010.

Dr. Mbye Kebba Kah is currently serving as the Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Al-Hikmah University established by The Gambia Islamic Union. He is a Senior Lecturer at Al-Ihsan University in The Gambia.
